History

The city of Sapulpa is named after a Creek native, Sapulpa (Ah ha Lovk Yalola*) There is some dispute over the actual spelling of his name and his birthday as historical precedents differ from the details included on his Civil War discharge papers. Sapulpa was originally born in the Alabama-Georgia area and was well educated. As the native American tribes were forced to relocate to the territories, Sapulpa eventually arrived in what is now Oklahoma. During the oil boom, the railroad expanded to where Sapulpa had a small trading booth which became know as "Sapulpa Station." (Reference: https://www.sapulpahistory.org/history-of-sapulpa.html)
